BEHIND THE SCENES, LET’S KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Brian and Regina Russell are Wishpenny, husband-and-wife creatives who have been making music together for three decades. Brian plays guitars and navigates sound production. Regina sings, strums acoustic guitar, and drives the drum kit. Regina writes lyrics and Brian writes riffs. They work out melodies, progressions, and arrangements together. Their eclectic, independent music is enhanced by the contributions of talented guest musicians and influenced by the creative heartbeat of Music City, USA. Brian and Regina met at the University of Arkansas, where he was skipping class and overdubbing with a four-track recorder. He asked her to sing and then all this happened. Prior independent albums by wishpenny are shine like new (2004, Georgia) and bound to (2010, Tennessee). Regina was raised in rural Arkansas singing unplugged country and folk songs around community campfires. John Prine and Emmy Lou until Aretha’s voice burst through the radio. Brian grew up in Memphis, birthplace of rock-n-roll, scouting for electrified tones in underground clubs. Peter Buck, Brian May, David Bowie. Cloudbursting with Kate Bush. Together they found Lucinda Williams and Buddy Miller. Meaning and tones. Its a folk-rock mash-up! A little bit country, a little bit rock-n-roll. You know, some of that cosmic American music. Original Wishpenny music has been shared on stages at the Quitman Preservation Music Hall in Georgia, Tennessee Music Tree Festivals, the Hippie Chick Twang Show and at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in Nashville.
