Emerging Artist a_shes based between London and Cambridge, shares his debut single called “movies & music”, which is available now on all digital platforms.
Produced by London based Palestinian producer Imad Salhi and written by a_shes himself, “movies & music” is a tribute to the memories and experiences he never had as a teen but always dreamt of having. Throughout the pandemic he was overcome with a sense of nostalgia when coming to terms with the fact that he was slowly losing precious time and can no longer escape adulthood. Its lyrics tap into the existentialism of late adolescence experienced by so many in his generation while drawing from sounds associated with the romantic “tumblr teen” fantasy of the early 2010s such as Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” and Troye Sivan’s “Blue Neighbourhood”.
BEHIND THE SCENES, LET’S KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born in 1997 and raised in the Malaysian side of Borneo, he moved to the UK for university with the aim of pursuing a career in academia. However, the COVID pandemic made him realise that he was slowly giving up on all the dreams and aspirations he had as a young teen – the older he got, the further away he felt from the bright-eyed and hopeful person he once was. Not knowing how much longer he would be able to continue residing in the UK, he finally decided to give music a try while balancing it alongside his graduate studies in order to satisfy the ambitious teen still lingering within him.
